My TV quit responding to both the factory remote and a universal one. Where can I buy a replacement IR sensor?
Everything I read says this should be a cheap fix. The IR sensor/control board has quit working on the TV. The TV is out of warranty and I don't want to pay an exorbitant fee for someone to fix it. Everything I've read says that this is an easy solder job, I've got plenty of experience working with electronics so I'm going to try to fix it myself before I take it in for repairs. So, this is a two part question.
1) I need to know how to track down the part that I need online. I've seen sites that let you do this, but I don't know any URL's to good, reputable ones.
2) Does anyone know of a place online that has a guide to this sort of a replacement? It'd be nice to have even a brief outline of how to do it before simply trying to dive in.
The IR sensor itself may be found at either Newark online, or Grainger online, they both have a lot of parts.
The control board is another story, and since that is most likely the culprit, you may have to go directly to the manufacturer, unless you pull it out prior and google the part number on the board.
Your third option is that there is most likely only one IC on the control board, if you can find the part number for that, either of those sites may have it.
Hope this helps your dilemma, it may be easier to just get a new TV in the end though.
