problem with my tv - can hear audio but nothing on tv screen :S?

basically for normal tv (channels1-5) my tv is fine.
I lost the remote for the tv last year and just recently got a Universal Remote which works fine. I cannot get it to connect to the other freeview channels though.
Also, when I put on videos or DVDs i can hear the audio, but the screen is blank :S what should i do?? i've tried pressing AV on the remote, but nothing happens
any help would be much appreciated, thanks
