Subwoofer and reciever? DEF TECHS?
I went to Magnolia and demoed DEF TECHS promonitor 1000's for fronts, Procenter 1000 for center, promonitor 800's for the rear and the prosub 800 and I must say I was quite impressed. I'm definitly getting that setup. However the base on the prosub seemed a little low. I really fell in love with the supercube3 however that's way out of my price range. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on a sub to match up with the promonitors. Under the $400 price range.
Also, I demoed everything on a denon avr-1508 and i'm considering that reciever. Is that a good reciever for this set-up to just watch movies and play xbox. I'm not into the blu-rays or hd dvds yet. I also considered the onkyo 605 but after testing it at circuitcity and feeling how hot it got after ten minutes it changed my mind. So now i'm torn between denon's avr 1508 and yamaha's rxv661
Any advice on what sub and reciever to get for these awesome speakers?
In my opinion, you should not cheat yourself on the sub when using these satellite speakers. The bass speakers in the 1000s are only 5 1/4 inches, much to small to give you any decent bass. They depend heavlily on a subwoofer, which in this system is also your primary woofer. You detected this problem already. There really isn't anything for 400 bucks that will perform the way you need it to. Maybe you should save for the SuperCube? You can get it for $600 here: http://www.homepriceclub.com/item.aspx?eid=1&pid=106685 but you risk the warranty trouble of buying from unauthorized resellers.
Both the 1508 and the 661 are fine receivers for these speakers. I prefer Yamaha, but at this level it's only because I'm more accustomed to their setup.
